Johanna Young

Soprano, Johanna Young resides in New York City where she has been performing in recitals and opera scenes across the city and tri-state area. She made her Carnegie Hall debut this spring with renowned Australian Guitarist, Rupert Boyd performing the works of Villa-Lobos. Her recent roles include Paquette in Candide, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Tessa in The Gondoliers, and in scenes, Susannah (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte).

Her orchestra performances include Susannah (Susannah), and Mimì (La Bohème). In 2008, Johanna participated in Fayetteville State’s Third Summer Opera Series, The Marriage of Figaro as Cherubino. A graduate of Wake Forest University with Honors in Music Performance, Johanna was a recipient of the Christian Cappelluti Prize for outstanding musical merit and promise.

A native of North Carolina, Johanna began her violin and piano studies in the Suzuki method at the age of 3. While at Wake Forest, Johanna continued her violin and piano studies by performing as both violinist and violist in chamber ensembles across the Piedmont, and various piano/accompanying competitions across in the area, receiving the highest marks. She began coaching musical theater students, and teaching violin and piano privately during her time at Wake Forest. She continues to perform on both instruments throughout the northeast.

While in North Carolina, Johanna studied with Teresa Radomski, and Barbara Caprilli. She currently studies with Catherine Mazzone and Giovanni Reggioli. Johanna teaches privately in the city and is on faculty in Long Island at the Huntington Center for Performing Arts and in Larchmont, NY at the Larchmont Music Academy.
